Change of Programme 19th September 2017

For those who were not present at last week's Camera Club meeting, sadly our booked speaker has had to pull out at quite late notice. However this gives us a good opportunity to tailor the night to something that we can all enjoy, I think as we are a camera club, it would be great to get 'out and about' and do something with the night light. I'm happy to do a night photography session focussing on buildings, perhaps locally or somewhere like Leeds which has a vast amount of potential. There has also been mention of a wire wool session, similar to the one we did earlier in the year, which would add a further aspect to the art of night/long exposure photography which many of you have shown an interest in. The basic message is bring your cameras, bring your tripods and cable releases if you have them and I'm sure you will get something you are satisfied with. For those who would prefer to stay at the centre, the room will still be open and available for you to socialise, and of course the bar will be open. If you have any questions please ask, although the above is what has been arranged at present. Any updates will be reported via e-mail  and on the Facebook page for those new members who's email details we don't yet have.

23rd November 2016

Following the visit of Ernie Howard recently Harvey Nock contacted him for some more information about photographing the Yorkshire Wolds. Ernie has a section of his Flickr site of just Wolds pictures  here.

Some of the photos have been titled but many are not. In Ernie's opinion, the best scenery is around the Yorkshire Wolds Way long distance footpath, between Market Weighton and Sherburn. Villages like Fridaythorpe, Huggate, Millington and especially Thixendale offer many circular walks of verying lengths to discover the beauty of this less frequented landscape. You really need to get the boots on and walk it to appreciate the landscape.

There are a couple of web sites which have walks in this area. East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leisure Services have a large number of walks at their Walking the Riding site. This can be found here.  It also includes cycling and horse riding routes.

A photographic friend of Ernie's  Arnold Underwood (who writes regularly for Country Walking) has a good selection of walks on his Dales Trails site here.  It seems to have lost a number of specific walks but is still good.

More extensive Yorkshire Walks can be found here and is very comprehensive. The search facility works well if you put in a specific village such as Thixendale. It has a lot of photos to shows the landscape and route.

Finally, the best photographer of the Yorkshire Wolds in all its moods is Paul Moon. He is an amateur who lives at Nunburnholme between Market Weighton and Millington. His site is here and has some remarkably moody shots of all the seasons of the Wolds.

He does walking photo tours of the wolds on an irregular basis, usually for the council as part of their countryside events or walking festival.   The year's brochure can be downloaded from here.

Maybe we could organise a group to go with him as an amateur, he is not outrageously expensive.
